Northline Settlement Network

Permissioned settlement network reducing reconciliation from 4 days to 15 minutes.

Northline is a consortium-grade settlement ledger for institutional payments: finality-bound batches, observable reconciliation events, and role-separated validation so counterparties agree on state without exposing competitive flow data.

Challenge

The programme required same-day certainty between banks and broker-dealers while preserving privacy between participants - generic public chain patterns were ruled out, and batch windows had to compress without breaking existing back-office cutoffs.

Approach

We deployed a permissioned Besu network with QBFT consensus, HA RPC behind load balancers, and event streams into each member's operations warehouse. Validator onboarding used ceremony scripts and genesis verification; load tests modeled end-of-day peaks and controlled failover of entire regions.

Outcome

A production settlement layer with documented reconciliation SLAs, operator runbooks, and evidence packs for model-risk and IT audit - cutting settlement latency from four-day cycles to fifteen minutes in the reference deployment.
